The revenue service office was named ‘Hsinchu Zhou Taoyuan Tax Chu-Zhang Office’ during the Japanese colonization, ‘Hsinchu Chou Taking Over Committee Taoyuan Tax Chu-Chang Office’ after WWII, renamed ‘Hsinch First Tax Administration Bureau’ in April 1946, and renamed ‘Hsinchu Tax Administration Bureau Taoyuan Office’ in January 1947. In October 1950, the administrative division was redrawn, and the original Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City were divided into Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County. The Taoyuan County government then established ‘ Revenue Service Office, Taoyuan County '.
Due to continuous increment in tax revenue, Zhongli Branch was established on January 1, 1958, Daxi Branch was established on September 17, 1981, and Yangmei Branch was established on December 26, 1981. The tax bureaus across the island underwent restructuring in January 1987. This revenue service office therefore established 14 units, including 8 sections, 3 offices, and 3 branch offices, and 47 subsections, and planned 432 job positions.

National Tax Administration established three offices, each including northern province, middle province, and southern province, and was responsible for collection of national taxes, such as business income tax, individual income tax, inheritance tax, gift tax, commodity tax, and security exchange tax. County/City tax revenue service offices were responsible for collection of local taxes, such as sales tax, stamp tax, vehicle license tax, land agricultural land tax, land value tax, land value increment tax, housing tax, deed tax, and amusement tax. With 149 positions transferred, the restructuring resulted in 7 section, 4 offices, and 3 branch offices with a total of 283 positions.

After the collection of sales tax was transferred to the National Tax Administration, the revenue service office added another 40 positions, and was renamed ‘Taoyuan County Government Tax Administration revenue service office’. It had 7 divisions, 4 offices, and 3 branch offices with 243 positions.
The construction produced soil and temporary tax, landscape maintenance temporary tax and physical education development temporary tax were added on January 1st, 2005 .

In accordance with article 62 of the Local Government Act and county autonomy enactment amendment, this bureau had revised its title to "Local Tax Bureau, Taoyuan County". In order to improve organizational performance, the organization had also restructured staff and offices into 10 Sections and 3 Branches, for a total of 239 employees .

To associate with Taoyuan County’s upgrade to a quasi special municipality as well as the amendment of the county government organization autonomous regulation on Jan. 1, 2011, our Director-General is political Appointee and the current organization had been adjusted to 7 sections, 4 divisions & 3 bureaus, with a total 359 official staff. Official staff increase was processed on an annual basis and vacancies were fully filled in 2014. To enhance public convenience services, the three branches were authorized to handle vehicle license tax services. From December 25, 2014 onward,the full title of the Bureau had changed to " Department of Taxation,Taoyuan. " with the Taoyuan County’s upgrade to municipality. The deed tax service which was commissioned to township offices was be taken back;the related personnel moved with the business,and the team size was adjusted to 378 people with seven sections,four offices and three branches. In addition, two three branches at Luzhu, Bade and Pingcheng will be established under the approval of the competent authority,and related offices and sections will be set up depending on the circumstances.

Luzhu Branch was established on July 4, 2016. In response to this, the Department of Taxation, Taoyuan, had distributed 58 staff members to the branch for the affairs transferred. The structure of the Department of Taxation with 378 staff members in total had also been adjusted and composed of seven sections, four offices, and four branches.
